Okanagan Spring, though no longer a microbrewery since being acquired by Sleeman’s (I think the powers that be classify it as a ‘regional brewery’), still makes a pretty good beer.

(combined, most awards for single brewpub owner at Great American Brew Festival), Anchor Brewing, Speakeasy (pictured), Magnolia, Anderson Valley, Bear Republic, Butte Creek, Mt. Sierra Nevada (pictured), North Coast (pictured), Lost Coast (pictured), Lagunitas (pictured), Drake’s, EJ Phair, Moylans & Marin Brew Co. Who cares if the beer’s mostly crap? (And they’re serving a lot of NorCal beer?) Yeah yeah, Oregon’s famous for having a lot of breweries and brewpubs, but that’s like being the world’s tallest midget. It’s worth noting that of those seven legible labels, SIX of those beers are from Northern California - the home of the best beer in the world, with SoCal (Alesmith, Stone, Oggi’s, Pizza Port, Greenflash) having perhaps better individual brewers but lacking the concentration to make it the best beer region.

Some of the best and most unique as well as highest (over)priced beer in the U.S. I like a good IPA but, c’mon people, there are so many more styles to choose. BUT, there is a sameness to many Cascadia beers – the same hops and, oftentimes the same yeast. There are some great brews in almost every area but the Pacific Northwest has probably the greatest concentration of high quality brews. There are some really crappy microbrews because the investors forgot that brew is the first word in brewpub. Yes, Belgium is the Disneyland of beer but you would be a fool not to extend your trip to include Germany and the Czech Republic (yes, I am planning a bicycle tour of Belgian breweries and staying in hostels along the way)Īmerican burp water is bad but not as bad as Canadian burp water though Canada now has some mighty fine Belgian style breweries.

I’m sorry (–> haahaaaahaaaa !!!), but I am Belgian and as we are all experts on Beer (Belgium being the country with the best beers in the world), I am allowed to say that any American beer tastes like ‘sh*t’.
